Ways to keep your coffee healthy

Good morning, or afternoon! You may be reading this with a cup of coffee in hand right now! May I ask, how do you like your coffee? If you happen to be health minded about your nutrition and lifestyle habits, you probably care about what ingredients you’re putting in your body on a daily basis….

I grew up in a coffee drinking family of 10. There was always a huge pot of coffee brewing up every morning, and a lot’s of coffee drinking family members circling around for their morning cup! My older sister’s nickname was coffee, and she even went on to be a barista!

I know there is a lot of controversy around wether we should be consuming coffee right now….Some believe coffee to be toxic and damaging to cells. These individuals have cut out coffee completely, and gone cold turkey on coffee as a whole. These people have turned to alternatives like matcha, chai tea, green tea, mushroom tea or even wellness cocoa for a coffee free boost!

I’ve talked with several different holistic doctors on this issue and heard from a few different sources that believe coffee is good in moderation. This is where I have landed on this issue myself.

Yes, coffee is addictive, highly acidic, and can be harmful when consumed in large quantities, (especially when lot’s of sugar and artificial creamers are added!) The saying is true, “Too much of a good thing is not a good thing.” We as humans have a tendency of overdoing things we enjoy at times. Red wine is proven to be beneficial in moderate amounts, but too much would not be good! I believe the same idea goes for coffee as well.

Coffee boosts cognitive ability, energy, and contains antioxidants. I enjoy a cup a day with a splash of coconut cream, a scoop of ashwagandha powder and a scoop of optimized plant protein by the Trim Healthy Mama ladies! How you make your coffee is crucial as well! If you’re adding sugar by the spoonful and cheap chemical laden creamer pods…YOU ARE DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

Here I will list some great health promoting options to keep your coffee simple and natural. If you can’t stand the thought of drinking black coffee and MUST have it sweet you may enjoy sweetening with honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, stevia, monk fruit, molasses, or date syrup. (Stick with stevia or low glycemic sweeteners if you’re diabetic.) For creamer try raw milk, coconut cream, mct oil, or brands like nut pods that are committed to clean ingredients! Maybe try making your own creamer!

There are a lot of ways to give your coffee a boost and make it a nutritional power house! You can add collagen, protein powder, mct oil, cinnamon, or really any kind of powdered supplement you can stand the taste of in your coffee! Get creative and have fun with it!

Coffee is a tool and nothing more. We should not rely on it more than God or put it on a pedistle. It’s a gift meant to be enjoyed with family, friends and those first quiet moments.🌄 God bless, guide and strengthen you brothers and sisters in Christ!
